Kōkohu Kai

Kōkohu (verb) to give quietly – to give koha unobtrusively.

Give a little here to help a little there.

Watch this space! Kōkohu Kai will launch on the 2nd of Nov (Term 4 week 4).

Kōkohu Kai is set to be Nayland Food Collective’s biggest project yet! Think a combinations of: My Food Bag, Meat-free Mondays, & a Food-bank. The idea is simple and is set out below!

Step 1: Our lovely Produce Partners will donate whatever Fruit and Vegetables are at their seasonal best ensuring we are eating seasonally and limiting the cost to our superb supporters.

Step 2: Pūaha Te Tai – our very own whānau class – will forage for local herbs and produce to add to the mix.

Step 3: Our dry goods partner (TBC) will send some pulses and grains our way to make sure our dish packs a protein punch.

Step 4: Those ingredient will then be used to write a delicious recipe that will go out in the newsletter on Friday and be posted here with instructions and videos making sure anyone can cook it at home.

Step 5: On the following Monday afternoon paper bags of just the right amount of each ingredient will be made up ready for collection. These can then be picked up out the front of Nayland after school. If you can pay a koha – great, we will make sure it goes to a worthy cause – if not, no worries! Simply grab a bag and enjoy the delicious kai with your whānau!
